If someone is responsible for the current state of affairs in the H1B area , It is Indian firms . The H1B1 was started in 'GOOD FAITH ' by United States to help people from "all over the world" to come in and work in the US , but large Indian IT houses have overexploited these loopholes so much that we are currently in this sorry state of affairs . In their greed for higher and higher profits(every Indian firm hits 30% profits every quarter ) they have spoiled a perfectly working program a few years ago to such a state that now getting an H1B has got less nothing to do with talent but has become like buying a supperlotto ticket .Below is a very good article from the "Economic Policy Institute " that highlights the fact that 2 well known Indian firms have single handedly lapped up 65% of H1B visas last year and have applied for just 69 green cards . Thats a GC application rate of 0.0004%. i Cannot help agree with the facts in this article. I totally agree that firms like these which abuse the system ought to be severely punished and blacklisted, so that geniunine US companies can get their required workers , when they need them . I have been trying to enquire about the status of my passport application. I tried all different tel numbers listed on the website. Nobody picks up !
Did anyone call CGI-Houston recently ?
If so please provide the number. Thanks !

I had similar situation recently. I tried calling CGI houston several times with the nos. listed on the website and no human would answer. If you are homesick, these nos are perfect to give a call. It would just play you a long Indian Classical music over and over again. My ears were still ringing with the music after the call, you can imagine how many times I had called!
Once I was lucky to get through, but not for much help. If anyone picks ups by chance, they would be rushing you like anything and refer you to consult the website.
It is amazing!

For your PD and EB category, you are able to enjoy 4 years of AOS benefits just because of IV. You will soon get your GC, only because of IVs continuous fight with CIS.. But hey you won't see it because it all happens behind the scene and someone else is picking your tab...

I agree with this 100%, BUT we (US degree holdeers) have to understand that in the GC aspirant community there are tons of people who came in through "desi consultnats" (even this word makes my blood boil), who will never agree with this or support this. Classic Indian mentality, one crab pulling the other back in the basket.

Commendable effort. The ideas presented in the forum and your personal experience as well as some research by you were taken to the people who might have some say in this process. The outcome of it does not matter right now, atleast the process has started and we need to follow on it with some targeted activity. Lot of my fellow IV'ians gave suggestions and some presented stories too. I did come across this thread only today and I missed out on an opportunity to present my story but nevertheless others have done so, i am somewhat lucky that despite the pain and hardship I did get my GC a year and half ago but I feel the pain my friends go through every day and continue to associate with IV.
I have read through each and every post made in this thread and these are good responses. There are some very good proposals - some likely to benefit a small set of
people ( GC's for Master's from US universities) and others wide encompassing.
I think the fix for this needs to go beyond smaller subsets of people.
A single master stroke is not going to erase the backlog it will need a series of fixes and the best way to go about it is to push for 1 or 2 main goals which will eliminate most of the issues. IV's core efforts are in the right direction.
IV'ians need to be united in getting a broadly accepted solution to majority of people rather than a small minority. Clearly my allegiance lies with people with priority dates which are more than 5 years old, people who are stuck in backlog centers, name check's and unexplained delays for no fault of theirs. This is not to belittle other people who are in the line for their GC's everybody have to wait their turn.
Friends who are espousing the cause of faster GC's for US Masters, do not sit on the high pedestal and belittle the people who came in on 'work visas'. They have as much right as you to have that 'Green card'. The time is not to fight EB2 vs EB3 or by ethnicity. A big deluge starts with a small drop of water, let us begin somewhere and once we get a fix to the larger problem other things will fall in place.
oh for the people who are ready to bash me, please see my profile, been in this country since 1996 and earned 2 Masters and yet classified as EB3 by employer. Yes I joined IV late officially but I try to do my bit in whatever way I can.

Hi Everyone,
My labor was approved under EB2 in Sept 06 under perm. Filing date was May 06. However my employer just told me that the letter has come from DOL to run the advt for the old labor that was filed under Eb2 category in Feb 05. I save a year plus on the old labor. Can I use that labor and if not what happens to that labor?

Slammer, if you got visa number last year you should have gotten an interview months back, UNLESS your consulate appoinment schedule is backlogged.

Sorry, should have said that the NVC had visa numbers for us - last year. Of course we won't hear anything from them until our PD becomes current.
But thanks for the tip to simply call the NVC and inquire about the status of our application, until now we only called the automated system and sent inquiries by email. Talking personally to someone might give some more information than the automated response :"Numbers are not yet available."

It is good to see lot of peopel of EB2 India are greened in the last 48 hours. However there is no single approval of people having PD earlier to 2004.
What it means?
Either one of the following should be true.
a) IV Tracker data of 65 pages ( 65*50=3250 approx) is wrong or Not updated
(Filtered by EB2 India Pending)
or
b) USCIS is processing I-485 randomly as usual , ignoring earlier PDs
IV Gurus / Seniors / Experts / Critical thinkers can comment on this.

USCIS does not differentiate US or Indian degrees.. Yes US degree has its own advantages... It more than just LEARNING...
Education is a bigger word than learning... Institutions can impart learning only... You can be highly learned with big degrees... still not educated :-)
Take a chill pill friends... Degree is important to USCIS like MPG (miles per gallon) to Car.. as its a basis to compare different entities :-)

however for EB2 for instance they dont care where you get your masters, so its a mixed bag. Basically USCIS follows the law, and its upto the lawmakers to decide the nitty-gritty of a particular law.
