My wife is on H4 visa with a valid I-94 (till Feb 2009) but her status will be on H1 from Oct 1st, 2007. Do we need to go for stamping before she starts working. Also who applies for SSN - Her employer and do we need to file ourselves. The employer kept the original H1. Do we need the original to apply for SSN? How soon can we apply for SSN?

You dont need to stamp your passport before you start working. Stamp is only needed to get into the US.
I think you have to go yourself and apply for SSN unless employer tells you otherwise. That's what my wife did. There are SSN offices everywhere. You can apply right away. Make sure you apply ASAP because unless you get your SSN, you cannot be paid and it takes a few days to get it. You need original documents. i don't get it you are saying that members don't have to search...and yet someone has to keep it up on the home page...which is it? yes a sticky thread would have saved work and not required someone to keep it up. Why wasn't it done in the first place. When a service is supposed to be offered every week...it should be offered every week...or else there should be an announcement that is will not be offered this particular week and that it will continue next on said week.

Please pause for a moment and think about what i am saying. This is exactly why you have less participation and less donation. IV needs to transform into a vibrant fun place to be while still upholding the noble cause.
Let me be clear, the only way IV knows of treating its members is with RESPECT. If it was not with respect or the understanding of the struggles each of you go through - our motivation to continue this cause would have long disappeared.
If there is frustration on our part, it exists within us, we hope for better, but the frustration (or anything else) has never stopped us from providing the service or executing the tasks.

dohko, The point of satishku_2000's post was that all companies follow the similar business practices. It doesn't make any difference if it is TCS or IBM, Anderson or Infosys. They are all same bunch of people, just different names. So your repeated rant about "indian companies" is not valid any more. We have someone who worked for IBM for 8 years and got 2 pay checks on bench. So now, lets not squabble without any reason.

Finally after the third "card production" email (June 23rd, July 15th, July 29th) i got the card today valid for one year. I efiled on April 27th. My PD is April 2006 EB2. So i guess thats why got only for one year.

For Indians we had vaccination in India at our childhood. Due to this some will get positive results in the skin test. Then doctor is going to recommends for chest x-ray. Some of the doctor's are going to overlook this. Because the medical report is a sealed cover we don�t know what number he written in the medical examination form. You can ask the doctor.
And one more thing is for skin test we have wait couple of days.
From my experience I recommend others to go for x-ray. In my case my immigration doctor, he written 5mm as reaction for skin test. USCIS sent RFE on this to go for x-ray.
I gone for x-ray and answered the RFE immediately.
A chest x-ray is required only if the reaction to the TB skin test is 5mm or greater.

Be it EB2 India or EB3 India or EB2 China or any other category. All of us are suffering. Some of us more than others.
But... as much as you like it their will not be a EB3-I only bill or admin fix.
Only thing which will fix the issue is EB reforms (more visa, elimination of country limits, STEM expemtions etc) which IV is fighting for.
IV is not your partent. All of us combined make IV. If you are affected more then show by acting accordingly.
Lobby now, meet your representatives now so that come March next year when CIR may be discussed our provisions are not only included but also have a solid backing.
If we do not do our share or work now, we will be disappointed when CIR or any other immi bill come up.
Show your commitment by contributing to IV. Meet law makers.

They registered your New Permanent Resident Status and just mailed you a formal notice with the same information. That means YOU ARE GREENed and THEY APPROVED YOUR GC.

In this visa bulletin atleast they give us an idea of not to expect until the year end, So they are not giving false hope in each bulletin until october 2009!!!

Just cooking up stuff classifies as a multi national.I know a guy who is a business analyst on L1 visa got his GC in 6 months time in EB1 category by a well know consulting company stating him as a Manager..The guy was bragging and showing off his white card ,and telling how he got his GC in 6 months

May be we can also try to reduce the retirement benefit age from 65 (or may be 67, or 70 I really don't know, whatever it is) 60. That will be tremendous help for early retirement. What do you say Mr/Mrs. Saralayar?

I have noticed that a lot of stocks that are worthless are pumped and picked by phony sites ....You might even be recieving spam emails asking you to watch certain trades.
Put them on a separate watch list since most of them usually spike for a bit and settle down ...What a DT does intelligently is to watch the spike and "Short" it when it starts sliding back again
This needs a lot of patience to learn and experience...so I suggest you not to trade in them for now and watch the plays.
Day Trading is like riding a bicycle , I believe , When you dont know how to ride it , even a straight road looks like a uphill task but as you learn and have more control over yourself....You start riding and with experience also know how to avoid the pot holes but most importantly how to get out and balance your self if you ever do land on it.
And then there are the ones who do Stunt tricks like Wheelies and back riding .......Thats what attracts novice to riding but you cant do that the first day Can You ???

The management of the company (not IT related) bravely decided to replace the "aliens" by american engineers. This proud decision had a disaterous consequence - our international based customers pulled back and found other contractors. Despite of all the money pumped to promote the "american" presence in the company, down-sizing is on its way and closure is on the horizon...
I was stupid enough to decide in 2003 to apply for a GC and to bear all this BS. Now working hard on plan B and waiting for the right moment.
