We are working really hard to get our amendments in. Please understand, we are not doing this for fun. We are into this just like you for our green cards. It would really help if we get support instead of having to answer the same questions over and over

But again, we are going full steam with this as it means as much to us as to you. And remember, we are a voluntary non-profit organization. I filed FOIA request for my i-140 approval notice(using i-140 receipt #) and I got the response from USCIS. Surprisingly they said they were not able to find my approval
notice. They could find my i-140 petition and sent me copies to 2 pages from
the petition. I am not sure why they couldn't find the approval notice.
I double checked my FOIA request and I mentioned the receipt number correctly.
On the USCIS case status page, it clearly shows that i-140 is approved.

Other Option is convert your H1 Extension to premium and get the approval before your H1 expiration date

actually more meaningful campaigns spearheaded by core will make people donate more.
right now some members are saying that the donations being made is for lobbying.
how much does that cost ? how much is needed ..more information is needed.
say if lobbying costs half million and every month we are able to raise 10K ..then it will take 5 - 7 years just to raise that amount
any new campaigns like removal of country limits, campaign for recapture, campaign to make EAD similar to temporary GC will make members donate more and attract new members !! Period.

it depends on the individual hospital... your downside is only your wife getting fired... which might not really happen unless your wife supplies 100 A grade nurses to the directly competing hospital across the street... if she does that, anyway she wont care for the job.... :-) all the best... let us know how it goes...

I think there is a way you can file 485 when I-140 is pending. One of my friends did that during July Fiasco.

Even though the hearing has been scheduled for the bill S 424, the hearings are not tightly linked to a specific bill. Hearings are a means to collect the data related to the issue at hand. The hearing results can be used to a wide range of related bills. S 1085 is a very similar bill and the emphasis of this bill is also reuniting families. During markup of whichever bill they pickup, they can amend the new pieces of the other bill.
If it is a markup, then, it is tightly linked to the bill.

After you wait for 7-8 years in your category for your visa your thougths will change. I have MS from an american university + work experience. Our lawyer decided to file EB3 in 2001, they convinced the company that EB3 is easier to get approved. i am still waiting for my GC, in the mean time i have gained a lot of experience, i am still an EB3 for USCIS. There are many in a similar position.
People talk about unethical practices etc. i feel that they ones who jumped the queue and used agressive lawyer already have their green cards. Most of my friends are already thinking about citizenship (and ROI after USC..that is a different forum :)).
Its people working in multinational companies who follow the law by the book are the ones who get screwed, its just my observation and opinion ..good or bad, i dont know...

Some inefficient people in Decision making authority at USCIS framed a rule on visa overflow and they are following it. If the rule is not much logical/ethical to most of the people, then anyone can voice their rights against it.

Is it a good idea to contact the Congressman even when 90 days are not over. My EAD expires on 18th September and 90 days will get over on 24th September. I have already put in the expedite request with Texas, but haven't heard since then, whether its approved or not. Please suggest what should I do?

While waiting for GC ( which may take several more yrs !!!) I want to go for Life Insurance, Since I am at age of about 40 its need to be done, though I have enough of that in India, not in US. In that regards I just started evaluating different options. Plesase share your comments and experiences during search of Life Insurance.
(1) which is better to go for term life or whole life
Term Life is better , agents will push for whole life as the commission are more
You have to come to the term , till when you need life coverage, like your son graduating after 7 years or after 12 years you may not have financial liability towards kids etc
(2) I started contacting agents (mainly desi) and they recommend Whole life ( if you can afford premium). They tell that it is ultimately result in Saving, Dividend etc. So my question is Does paying EXTRA PREMIUM ( i think it will be substantially high for whole life) RESULT in EQUIVALENT OF SAVINGS OR DIVIDENS? or just agents recommends that because they get more commissions with that?

(3) I see lot of DESI agents in New york Life, So is it due to their speciallity in Indian Community market? Does they offer competative products?

Each of us need to send their local senators a stopper and a personalized memo saying 'tax paying legal immigrant since year <ur year of entry>..no green card because of country cap limit and visa number wastage each year by USCIS..We would want congress to pass a legislature to recapture the unused visa numbers. We are NOT asking for H1 increase.. The reverse migration is already in progress and might become severe without any congressional inaction.'
This could work because we have atleast 2000 active members and there are around 100 senators. If each of members could send a stopper(cost around 10 dollars each) to two senators, each of the senators would receive forty to fifty stoppers. It will atleast gain us the much needed Media publicity.
The problem with us is most of the members don't want to show up in public. I hate it but to make thousands to walk on streets it takes a lot of money and effort and at the end not many people would show up.
I know I am ignoring the house representatives completely..but we make enough noise with senators it might just serve the purpose. Moreover, I think te house is not that against legal immigration.
Any thoughts..

There is nothing wrong in wishing well to other fellow members on a festive occasion. Its just that its the wrong forum to do so.
And besides this thread was started by a member and not a moderator or senior IV staff, hence its his personal view so please do not accuse IV of being partial to any particular race or ethnicity.
Please don't draw this fight out of proportion and stay focussed on our mission.
Everyone has the right to speak and if other Nationalities want to wish their fellow countrymen on their festivals they should be allowed to do so. Also, under the same protection of free speech if anyone on the forum does not agree with someone's coments they should be able to rebut and criticise them.
Even if a Mod or an Admin wants to wish its members on festive season, there is nothing wrong about it. Even the American President wishes people on ocassions and festivals.

May be this is not a prediction thread. But the OP and some others are all about VB in another thread or two. While I personally dont have any issue with it, it just frustates me that people dont understand that VB is not going to do any magic for PD's in 2003 or later. C mon Lets be realistic. After doing all the math in so many threads, Does any one expect that the PD will be some where in the ending of 2003. Hell no. Then why is that we have a Dec Bulletin thread way back? Now some one is gonna come start a Jan prediction thread. Useless. 1. if your company pays for everything, why such reluctance to put up a few more dollars for your own cause? think of those that pay for everything themselves and still contribute.
2. each contribution to paypal costs, they take a chunk off it. making small 10 buck contribution is really not the intelligent way to go.
3. there used to be a 20/mnth recurring contribution. now it does no exist. what do you want? should we throw out the original 20 buck guys? of course they can continue doing it. i can't imagine why it would put you off? btw we did not really lose any money by going to a minimum of 50- you know why? those who were serious still contributed. others who were whining at that time (why is there not a 10/mnth option) were in many (though not all) cases not going to contribute anyway. this is just fyi.
4. what is 50 bucks a month? step back and think sometime. a family meal/movie? do you indulge yourself occasionally worth 50 bucks?
i think in many cases the answer is yes. the money we need for lobbying ie very large....it's hard to make it form 20 bucks at a time when barely 5% of the membership contributes.

I wouldnt make such a big request just for attention from TOI. Please trust me we will get attention if we manage to send a few hundred flowers. I am not exaggerating.
