From my understanding you cannot apply for CP unless you have mentioned that you will go for CP when you applied for I-140. Please correct em if I am wrong.

It is all dependent on one's situation. Obviously housing is better than renting, only if one's situation allows it. Do not extend beyond your means. I read above somebody making their expenses+mortgage on one person's salary. He has great hope for GC very soon. That can a wise decision. Buying expensive cars, houses, gadgets is very attractive.
I have noticed people buy stuff (not just houses) based on their present income and think they will have same or higher income. These people are working on contracts in IT companies.
Housing is not just money saved in rent and paid towards mortgage. It is maintainence, more furniture, higher utility bills, you name it. Owning a house is not cheap, but sure is better than renting only if you can afford it.

What about someone who's applied five or six years ago, but his green card is still awaiting "security check", while a friend of him, who's applied at the same time has already gotten it a couple of years ago!

And to add if this continues, Congressman will not take these requests seriously going forward as every other day they will be getting such requests. So please have patience and wait for few days before you approach your local Congressman.
I haven't open any SR with USCIS , but some folks mention that when they open SR they get standard reply to wait for 30 days. With visa dates going back and forth, customer should open SR as early as month start so if dates remain current for atleast two month they can get some reply. If you wait till end of month and then open SR and if USCIS ask for 30 days and date retrogress , I bet you next reply will be No visa available.

Congratulations to all who got their approvals in Sept.
I really need your advise , it seems my case is frozen and no one is looking at it.
My priority date is Aug , 2003 ,
And RD = Jun 17 2007
and ND = Jun 18 2098
My dates were within processing dates for 3 months in 2007, 9 months in 2008 and 3+ months in 2009 but still no one is adjudicating my case.
I tried following
- Enquiry thru Aila
- Service request their toll free number.
- Enquiry thru office of local senator
- Enquiry thru Ombudusman's office.
- Enquiry using info pass
All of these enquiries just send very standard formatted response suggesting we are working on your case get back in 6 months.
Any suggestions?
Please advise.

I am not a leader but a person of average intelligence capable of understanding the implication of the re-interpretation of the spill over rule on EB2. If you have the time, please read the comments of EB3worker. It would be better if we work unitedly towards visa recapture instead of trying to envy one group. The common goal is working towards Visa recapture. The forum cannot be hijacked by any group EB1/EB2/EB3.

Unused visa for ROW (Other countries) is NOT because there are not enough skilled workers from other countries but because the uscis/dhs use the quota to conservatively hence at the end of the visa year there are still many quotas left. ROW priority date has never been current for a very long time

My understanding is that local office would not open a service request. But they could request interim EAD. Since they no longer produce it locally they have to request some service center to issue one.
