To all others like me, who are hesitant and are not sure about the talking points. Below is something that can help.
You would most likely be talking to a person taking messages and not the congressman/woman directly.
And you also dont have to explain them the details of the bill, as they are very well aware of it. All you have to tell them is it is about HR5882.
After one or 2 calls, my message was standardized and this is what I used in all the calls.
Good Morning. I am calling in regards to the bill HR5882. (Pause for the other person to give you a go ahead and then continue). I would like to express my support for the bill and would like to request the support of Congressman/woman for the bill. If you can pass the message to the Congressman/Woman, that will be greatly appreciated.
Thank You and have a Great Day.
Some of the offices will ask you for your phone number and address, go ahead and give it to them. No harm.
And some might ask you where you are calling them from. My reply to them was - I am calling from the state of VA. I also reached out to my district's congressman, but also wanted to request the support of Congressman XXXX and so am calling your office.

After some calls, I even called up people who do not suppor this like Steve King, etc. It was only a matter of a call and letting them know our opinion. All that I lost was 2 minutes of my time and no money for my unlimited phone plan.
Not sure how much help it will be, but surely cannot hurt. It would atleast draw their attention due to the large call volume. Yes, some offices told me that they were receiving lot of calls for this bill.
So go on... do your part.

Lufthansa is another option for no transit visa, cheaper ticket than NW, Emirates or Singapore airlnies, little bit security check at Frankfurt when returning .....
with emirates, there is a route via dubai (no torture) and one via hamburg + Dubai. I traveled via the second one twice on emergencies. you are ushered in a square box of a building with barbed wires and armed (fully armed and body armored, hand gunned, you-mongrel-looking) guards. There is even a special
barbed wire line for 'special immigrant' (read asylum or illegal migrants) inside though i have not seen it used. then comes double wammy security checks (show-me-your-baby'smilk-is-edible type). There is one bathroom for each gender that has useless (over 10 months)faucets and one bar (no shop for food). the layover reminded me of concentration camps. But it was still better than $274 ;-)

I-485 is an individual application, so this list will have all the EB based I-485 that includes the spuse and children.

Its a little hard to understand how the issue of 'work authorization' cannot be raised during interview or hiring process.
The details escapes me... at some point in the long past I was looking into what kind of questions employers should and shouldn't ask. If I come across anything again then I will surely post.
As far as EAD is concerned, the employers shouldn't discriminate. Especially if more than 90 days are left on it since that's the time-frame govt promises to issue a new EAD. The employer might feel better to work with a citizen or GC or a person of certain ethnic background or national origin. However, thats the kind of decisions the employer is not allowed to make. Employer has to accept EAD, everything else being equal. When the law is not followed and it harms us, we have to fight it back.
I realize employers sometime end up asking questions that they shouldn't like the obvious ones such as age and marital status.

Police solved the Duke case partially that it's robbery case.
Don't come to conclusions yourselves..
On top of these issues, apparent hate crimes against Indians at LSU and then at Duke would certainly make a lot of parents a little nervous before sending their kids for higher education here.

my lawyer's office just called me saying they would want to file ASAP, for which they want my signatures tomorrow. I met her an hour ago, when she was saying things like "hopefully by next week".
So whether or not this is a rumour, it sure has clicked the panic button for lawyers too!
If this is true, it is unimaginably bad. (Personally I still think it won't happen till end of July.)

Canadian EB3, just became current. Company lawyer preffers I-485 vs Consular Processing (CP) because it's "safer". Does anyone have experience with Canadian CP? How fast is it? Is it a hassle or is it straightforward?

My I485 is pending since October of 2006. I had a RFE for medical in april of 2007 and replied quickly. Since then there is no movement in my case. I contacted USCIS several times and they told me that my name check is pending...

I think we are assuming that this will continue to be the case through Oct 2010. What if DOL changes policies with PERM approval tomorrow or the economy starts improving by March? EB2 ROW is current and there will be quite a few PERM's from them which will be adjusted immediately. We'll have to wait till the Sep results are in and the data is adjusted with 2005 EB2 numbers. Hopefully all < 2005 should be taken care of for EB2.

First off, interesting thought. I thought about this a lot. A lot of my friends are citizens now. Most of them came at the same time I did or even after I came. They were at the right place at right time and did not languish in SWA & BEC like I did and did not wait in 485 queue for years like I am now.
It may be difficult to sell the idea of 10 year presence , but I believe the following may be palatable :
Consider the 140 approval date or I485 filing date towards calculation of the 5 years of residency requirement instead of GC approval date. You are technically approved to be a resident when 140 is approved. You are ONLY WAITING to be status adjusted for lack of numbers.
having said that I have NO expectation that we can achieve this. Think about it, we can't get simple things about GC done and aim for Citizenship :)
reminds me a famous quote about , some one who can't climb to the roof aiming for moon. (I sound pessimistic, but I am damn deserved to be one :)

Ofcourse, they have to put up resources, van, driver to drive these flowers and deliver.
I don't think they will go thru with it fully. They may just send the first batch of flowers to the veterans and then, send the rest to the trash...:eek:
