This is what happens after 485 receipts.
1. If one has not applied for EAD and TD , one applies for them and wait anxiously for their receipts.
2. Meanwhile some people start getting FP notices and one does not receive them he or she gets anxious. Finally one gets FP.

4. One goes and gives finger prints for INS.
5. Finally one gets his or her EAD and TD after 5 to 6 months , One enjoys the moment briefly.
6. Its almost a month since one received EAD and AP , Its time to apply for renewal.

8. Its almost 15 months since the first FP and one receives the second one because "Finger prints expire" ,
One has to repeat these steps in a cycle for almost 6 to 10 years depending on PD and "Nationality"
Meanwhile if USCIS changes any processes anywhere in the pipeline expect further delays.
I think best thing is to do participate in IV activities.

i would really discourage ppl who are not insiders of nebraska uscis or whatever to scare ppl from filing eb2 or converting to eb2 from eb3. how do you know what nebraska is doing?

What is the benefit of applying for an OCI card for the kids and how long does this process take?
the kid does not need a visa to enter India. Also, if you go on a visitor visa, then your stay is limited to 180 days at the max. On an PIO you can stay how ever long you wish to, but after 180 days, you need to register with the district police station to get a certificate of extension. this is usually valid for about 2 years. you can renew that every 2 years.
If you are on an OCI, then the above restriction on PIO does not apply. You have all the prvileges of an India citizen, except that you cannot vote and hold agricultural land.
I am not sure about sutdying at Indian citizen rate. You might have to pay the fees in USD, if i am not mistaken.

Your good fight on the retrogression issue kind of kept us going without giving up. In just a few days what some of you have done with www.immigrationvoice.org is amazing and it truly deserves a lot better than the faint response they have got so far from all of us in this legal black hole. Honestly, I do not care if we are not able to raise 100K dollars for the lobbying efforts for the next immigration bill on February. I don not care if this money is finally lost. It will be money well spent if we all realize that we have to do something instead of waiting years and years and years� Any money is worth the effort regarding our goals, even if our present intention does not succeed. Is worth it!!. Lets move on, hoping for the best� It is worth to try this next immigration bill. Any money spent on this is worth it� Can not you guys see it? More and more years on this black hole!! More years paying our lawyers for H1B renewal, more years for renewal of our driving licenses, more years for our wives to wait, more years for our employers exploiting us� This next immigration bill could be our last chance in many years to get our unfair and sad situation known and probably solved. We would at least raise enough concern about the absurd situation of the legal immigrants� It could be a new Quixote tale, I do not care� A good part of my next paycheck will go to immigrationvoice� Whatever� Keep America growing� America is not just them�. As I understand that the Tri State area is very big and has a huge population and everyone would love to make it to the events, a lot of events are being planned.
Now for those who cannot make it to NYC, please arrange your own MEET AND GREET events in a local Starbucks or meet up in a local mall food court or any other place you think is best - conference rooms in apartment complexes are very ideal places for meetings.
We want volunteers from the following areas
(1) Long Island, farther east - till Riverhead
(2) South Jersey, West Jersey
(3) Connecticut (Northern)
(4) Upstate NY (Albany and Poughkeepsie)
(5) Upstate NY - Syracuse, Rochester and Buffalo

and click on renew online. Here you have to enter your details and pay through credit card. You will receive the confirmation letter (DL60A/DL60R) through regular mail with in 10 days. Take the letter and go to the DMV for photograph.
The photograph folks don't ask any immigration documents, just the SSN original card. That's it.
I'm in the same boat. PA DoT wants to see visa stamp on the passport.. applied for 1st 3 year extn at VSC on 7/10, will up it to PP this week... anyone in PA got their DL renewed using RN... please specify how and where??

IV is doing a fabulous work. Hats off to the core team!!!;
I was active during efforts towards getting the immigration provisions into the S1932 bill and I can say that the efforts today are much more organized than those for S1932; I can imagine the scrambling and the mess that we would have been today, if not for IV.
Good luck, IV!!! Even if we do not succeed this time, we will have enough mileage to push our provisions within a separate bill in the near future. Keep up the good work.
I logged in this morning to get a regular update and came across this thread.
I am surprised to this discussion and the heated debate. Tides and Ebbs are a part of what we do. I think we must all be satisfied that we have IV to represent us. Think about it guys, we would have no voice if it were not for IV. I sincerely hope something comes out of all this efforts that all of us have put in. We have a good thing going here and lets not stop.
Even if nothing happens, I will be content that we have made efforts. Not just a tiny efforts but a big ones. Kudos to everyone who is contributing ideas and money. Keep the good work going and let us know what we have to do to help you all.

If I switch jobs by doing H1B visa transfer and my new employer picks up the green card process from the EAD stage, does my new employer have to be located in the same city as the one mentioned in my PERM labor application of my current employer. The reason I ask is because my PERM application says my current job location is in Town X, State Y and I wondering if I have to stick to Town X, State Y when I find a new job or if I'm free to work anywhere in the US.

Check ICICI. I think it is called a NRE account. You can fund it in Dollars and Rupees and it could be repatriated in Dollars. So just open the account and have them deposit the monies India, you can draw it here. This kind of account is for NRI's who earn an income in India and want to access it here.
There is a limit I think but it must be like $25K..

The actual problem is, the Congress. Lawmakers are the problem. They know everything what is going on. They know that not just desi companies but even larger companies take advantage of the vulnerable part of the society - the immigrants. Inspite of having all the information, the lawmakers deliberately did not add necessary protections for immigrants. And, even if the system becomes more efficient, people who enjoy the gutter will continue to live in the gutter. No laws or protections can help folks like you. Every now and then, just come to forum like these and rant once in a while. That's what you will do. The fact is you do not need better treatment or benefits. You need better therapy to tell you that you can come out of the gutter.

I received my EAD last month. But no AP yet. However, i received an email from my lawyer today that.....my AP got rejected. The rejection letter is saying that I485 got approved that's why the I131 is rejected.....therefore, my lawyer is waiting for the I485 approval.....but my lawyer told me that I can expect my card soon.
I don't know how to react. The online doesn't have any update about the I485 status yet. They received my application on July 2, 2007.
